You’re certainly not the only one shackled by these norms, and I don’t blame you with the way our educational system is focused so rigidly on “correct answers” and standardized testing. This must change. And modern management systems must become far more adaptive.

I’ve thought the term eLearning has been dead for a long time. I only use it bcauese people know what it means. In my mind it’s always been an aspect of training and I somewhat resented it being categorized as something different. I never thought about the how to describe my skill set if the term eLearning is dead, but I do like your idea. It’s sort of like a musician. That’s a pretty generic term, like training specialist’, but violinist is pretty specific and is a much better indicator of skills and abilities. Every musician can read music (presumably) but a violinist doesn’t necessarily play harmonica. Different specialties in the same discipline.

Great job. I agree completely. I received my masters degree online. Bachelors degree online. I feel like I received a wonderful education that was structured and well designed. I am in the process of creating my own online project management business and feel that my skill sets have completely been enhanced by various job opportunities over the past 30 years. Thank you for writing this article, I needed to have some words of reinforcement and encouragement. This article provided all of that for me.
