What is SOJT?

OJT is simply job instruction occurring in the work setting and during the work. It is on-the-job-training where an "already experienced and successful employee" uses a company-standardized-checklist of tasks and performance criteria to train and certify new employees.

OJT may be overseen by a supervisor, an experienced co-worker, a subordinate, or a job coach from outside the organization or it may be self-directed and overseen by new employees themselves. OJT can be appropriate for any occupation or job level.

A structured OJT program lets you choose what tasks and skills are transferred from “teacher” to “student”, and you make sure that only the best practices and requirements are passed on. With a structure, the selected people involved in the program are responsible for carrying out their tasks, and with the proper management and supervision, accountability is then possible.
